ATTEMPTED SCAM STATEMENT

We are aware of fraudulent behaviour being carried out in which criminal operators are falsely producing and using insurance documents in the name of Romero Insurance Brokers which have no connection to our business and are invalid.

These insurance documents are being used in order to hire plant and machinery using false company names and insurance documents, with any hired machinery subsequently being stolen.

In all instances we have witnessed in relation to this scam, we have no connection to any of the businesses either legitimate or falsified and the fraudsters are simply using our name as a reputable insurance broker.

In each occurrence, this illegal behaviour has been reported to the police.

We encourage all plant hire organisations to diligently check and verify any insurance documents provided before the commencement of plant hire to ensure the documentation you are provided is legitimate.

If you do receive an insurance document (for example, an Insurance Certificate or ‘To Whom It May Concern’ letter) purporting to be from us, please check with us first in order for us to verify the legitimacy or otherwise of this document.

Other things to look out for:

• Review the company email address these documents have been sent from. They are often not legitimate company domains and may come from @hotmail / @gmail accounts. This is a red flag which should prompt you to check & verify.
• Review company information provided in any documentation such as company registration numbers, addresses, contact details or FCA registration numbers. Fraudsters often make mistakes here and these are a red flag to prompt you to check & verify.

If you are ever in any doubt, please verify with the company you believe you’re working with via publicly available contact details (eg. Via Google) and check the validity of the insurance documents provided by speaking to the insurance broker / insurer detailed in the documents you have received.
