It's time to get to know Karl Linnecor!
Karl’s role at NDML and Club Insure is ever-changing. He gives us the lowdown of what life’s like behind the scenes, and why constantly learning and developing is key.
First things first. Do you enjoy working here?
I must admit this is one of the best places I have worked. The Senior Leadership Team have a plan and a clear direction. I’m glad to be part of it
What’s been your favourite thing about being here?
My role. It keeps me busy and develops my skill set. I’m now a go to person within Club Insure and NDML which I really enjoy.
What have you found most challenging?
Keeping up with the changes within my role has been a struggle but one I have found really rewarding.
If you had to sum up your role in one sentence, what would it be?
Diverse, expanding, problem solving, and constantly developing.
What has surprised you most about working here?
In some places of work, if a board member was to come on to your floor, you’d have to roll the red carpet out and not speak unless spoken to. Or, worse, it’s more for publicity which I find very odd. Here, the board members actively approach you to ask how business is going and what you need. I think this is fantastic and has helped me develop my role
What would you like to change about insurance?
The compliance! I know this will never change, though. In fact, it may only get even more strict. Sometimes it is a bug bear but, hey, that’s insurance.
Where are you in 5 years’ time?
Id like to say working here still but maybe as a Broking Manager with my own little team.
Where is Romero in 5 years’ time?
Sounds cheesy but with the management team we have and how driven they are to be the best, I’d like to say we will be the largest independent broker within the UK and growing significantly in size.
Where did you work previously, and what did you do?
As a New Business team leader my role was to drive the new business within the department and try and make a smooth process for the panel of brokers we supplied.
What drives you to succeed?
I love learning and growing. I think if you are not always learning new thing and developing yourself you are in the wrong job!
Sum yourself up in 5 words
Small, bald, weird, helpful and funny.
What’s your perfect Sunday?
I have two perfect options. If I’m by myself I love doing DIY. My current project on the go is my kitchen and converting my garage into a gym. My other perfect Sunday is my baby strapped to my back, three year old attached to my legs and going for walks in the Dales. We’d stop for a picnic then home for a roast beef dinner.
If you were a biscuit, what would you be and why?
Jammy Dodger. Hard exterior, but with a soft heart in the middle.
What’s your pet hate?
My biggest pet hate is poor punctuality. I always have to be early no matter where or what I’m doing. This was something that was always driven into me when I was younger.
I was even 45 minutes early for my wedding day. I ended up sitting in a waiting room while the other wedding finished. My best man thought I was nuts! Luckily he’s known me a long time so he brought some larger and a pack of cards for the four of us.
If you were stranded on a desert island and could take one book, one luxury and one song, what would they be?
One of the Harry Potter books, my swiss army knife and I’d listen to Thin Lizzy – Whiskey in the Jar.
Have you enjoyed learning more about Karl Linnecor and his role here at the Romero Group?
If you’d like to work with an award-winning independent broker, our team would love to hear from you.
